VACATION BIBLE SCHOOLS—A BIG HIT!
A fellow
boat ministry called “Sonlight Boat Ministry” had been conducting
Vacation Bible Schools in Long Island for some time, and they were leaving
for another island. They asked us if we would like to take over VBS on
Long Island. This was a divine setup! After discussing and praying
together about taking this on, we began feeling that this could be a very
good opportunity to really build relationship with some of the kids. So,
we decided to “accept the mission.” Rick and Sandy researched VBS
packages and found a high energy one with a missions flavor. Starting July
11th, we conducted an ambitious series of three one-week Vacation Bible
Schools in the North, South, and central areas of the island. We used
sound systems, a school bus, puppets, live Bible characters, video
projection equipment, finger-paint, construction paper, toilet paper
tubes, and more! It was a blast. The kids had a ball, and we really drove
home the point that God is interested in reaching the whole world, and He
wants to use them. At least half a dozen children prayed to receive
Christ, and also, of utmost importance to our objective here, we developed
a trust and a relationship with over 90 precious children. These VBSs were
a springboard into a whole new phase of ministering to and influencing the
youth of this island!
During
the last week which we conducted here in Salt Pond, we were assisted by a
team of young adults from Commonwealth Chapel in downtown Richmond. Rick
and Sandy’s daughter Betsy was a leader on this team, and she and her
mom got to work side-by-side during the outreach.
