Update on the Long Island School Supply Project
In the fall of 2002 we
worked to meet a need for school supplies in the elementary schools on
Long Island. The result of that effort was 5500 lbs. of school books and
supplies. Our friend Stan Hall approached local school administrators for
donations, and we were almost overwhelmed with the response. We
ran around Richmond for a solid week filling up a pickup truck time and
again with beautiful school supplies. Debra meticulously sorted,
catalogued, and packed 110 large boxes with the items. She lovingly
labeled every box so that the teachers and principles on Long Island would
not be overwhelmed by the donation. Roy Armstrong drove a rented truck
full of pallets of boxes to the shipping company in Florida which deals
with Long Island. James Fox received the boxes and began distributing the
materials. While Reuben was there, he had the privilege of taking the team
to Glintons Elementary School which was the inspiration for this whole
project. This
team did a mini-presentation of the gospel, sang some gospel songs with
the children (in public school), and delivered boxes of school books and
supplies. The principle and teachers were thrilled!
