Teams and Visiting Ministers
We
had a host of different teams and visiting ministers this year. When I
think back on all that has happened I am overwhelmed with gratitude to God
for His blessing, and His working in and through us. Here is a synopsis of
visiting teams and events:
Betsy Redd and Helen Mason came to do dance ministry
among the children and youth. They also helped us run a dance training
workshop that we opened up to those teens who were interested in
dance/worship ministry. Over 60 kids showed up for the event and the
cookout!
Pastor Fred Spivey of West End Assembly of God in
Richmond came and taught a leadership training seminar. The meetings were
very well attended by pastors and leaders from a number of churches and
ministries on the island.
Pastor Bob Smith and his wife Vicky of Family Life
Center Four Square Church in Richmond came and taught a seminar on faith.
This seminar was also opened to the public and was well attended by
leaders and members of other churches.
Pastor Dave Burrows (famous youth pastor from Miles
Monroe’s church in Nassau) came on two occasions with Rap/Reggae artists
in tow to conduct special presentations at our youth night. Pastor Dave
and his crew also conducted an all-Saturday youth-leadership training
seminar at Maritime’s facility. Attending were over two-dozen youth
workers from our youth group and a number of others.
Mechanicsville Christian Center sent a building team to
begin construction on our new project. The team was joined by long-time
friends Freddie and Mary-Leigh Biggers from South Carolina. In addition to
the construction work accomplished, this team had a very exciting time of
Holy Spirit ministry at the Friday-night youth meeting.
West End Assembly sent a building team to help with the
new project, and to do some special renovation work at our partner church
here where the youth meetings are held. This opened up a beautiful 23’ x
12’ classroom for the K-1 section of the youth night. Previously they
were trying to teach 15 to 20 kids in a 12’ x 8’ space.
Oak Grove Baptist sent a construction team to partner
with us to help one of the local churches here called Palestine Baptist
build a Sunday School room for some much needed space. This project helped
us cross over denominational lines to become more interdenominational.
Commonwealth Chapel in Richmond, and Mechanicsville
Christian Center both sent ministry teams to help us run two consecutive
weeks of Vacation Bible School. During our third week of VBS, we were
assisted by long-time friend Lesa Paylor and her daughter Kelsy. The VBSs
were very successful. They were so attractive to the kids that, though we
did the same program in different areas of the island each week, we had a
number of kids who became “groupies” and attended all three repeat
performances! Righteousness, peace and joy...and fun were the main
attractions.
We also had a very precious time of fellowship and
encouragement when our Senior Pastor Carter Goolsby and our Missions
Director Mitch Bennett came for a visit.
