THE SALT PROGRAM
God provided an opportunity to start a program in one of
the schools called Seamanship And Life-Skills Training (SALT). It
incorporates classroom teaching and practical training for not only
nautical skills, but various life skills such as loyalty, responsibility,
determination, respect, etc. The basis for the life skills is on Biblical
principles. It began with 6 eighth grade boys, who were viewed as most
likely to drop out of school.
After a year, the boys have shown improvement. They are
learning the seamanship portion of the program well, but have a hard time
with reading and writing at an 8th grade level. The ring leader, Kelson,
was in the principal’s office almost every day for bad behavior. His
visits now are much less frequent!
Please pray for all of them and especially for Kelson,
that God will capture him and use him as an effective leader. We are
seeking funding for this program to purchase life jackets, uniforms,
parallel rules and other tools to practice plotting and setting courses…etc.
We could also use a boat for this program. Please pray that we will
contact the right sources for funding this program and for good contacts
with government officials in the Bahamas.
