Undivided
There
is some exciting, lasting fruit of the Missions World Cup Challenge. One
of the goals that God impressed on our hearts for this year's outreach to
Long Island was to challenge the youth with the idea that God wants to use
them for ministry. Our team leader for the older kids program Brian Mason,
challenged the kids with a three part altar call. Part of that altar call
was an opportunity to commit to being involved in short term missions
activities through Maritime Ministries. Several teenagers came forward. As
a result of this, an interdenominational Bahamian youth outreach team was
born. This ministry team of 9 children continued to meet every Saturday
for prayer, instruction, planning and practice. They were asked to come up
with a name for their group, and they called themselves,
"Undivided". Originally, "Undivided" was made up of 9
kids: 3 high school boys, 3 high school girls, and 3 primary school girls.
It became obvious after several meetings that we needed to limit it to
high school students. The team eventually became 3 girls and 3 boys. They
are from three different denominations and different areas of the island!
God provided 4
ministry opportunities for the team on Long Island while we were there.
These included: song and testimony presentation, a work day on a local
mission house, a drama presentation, and an hour long program which
included worship, special songs, three different 5 minute sermons, skits,
and a drama presentation which the children themselves created. This was
beyond anything we would have dreamed possible.
The next step
for "Undivided" is to take a short term missions trip by boat to
a neighboring island.
We
are planning to do this the next time "Praise The Lord" returns
to Long Island.
The final stage
for the team will be a missions trip to another country. We are praying
about the possibility of bringing them to Richmond.
